What is Personal and Rehabilitative Training?
In short, personal training is exercise prescription and instruction specific to an individual's body type, personal goals and immediate health or fitness needs. Rehabilitative training (or rehab training) is personal training designed to restore strength and flexibility that has been compromised due to injury. The two terms are often used synonymously (as they are here) because their functions are essentially the same, just applied in a different context.

Why do I need a Personal or Rehab Trainer?
First, consider how much money you spent last year on your car to get you around. How much did you spend on your hair last year to help you look good? We spend so much money each year to maintain necessities of life such as these, we often short-change our health. The first and easiest answer to this question is 'your health is worth it!'

Life's interruptions such as work, an illness or injury and familial demands can really get in the way making it easy to quit an exercise program. A personal trainer understands how life's obstacles can prompt you to let your exercise program slide and through their motivation and direction can help you keep on track to achieve your desired results. What should I look for in a personal/rehab trainer?
Quite often people base their choice of a personal trainer on looks alone, aspiring to one day 'look like them.' However, an impressive physique does not necessarily make a good personal trainer. The most important assets of a good personal trainer are knowledge/experience, ability to communicate, patience and a good bench-side manner.

Your personal trainer should be certified. While certification does not imply that the trainer is a good communicator and has patience, it is evidence of a higher level of knowledge and commitment to stay current with new information and techniques. Non-certified personal trainers should be avoided.

Don't be afraid to challenge your Personal Trainer. Learn what you can about the person, their credentials, experience and any other skills, knowledge, techniques or expertise from which you may benefit.

What does a Personal Trainer expect from me?
A willingness to learn and get better might be the first thing a trainer looks for. Punctuality, is a must...we all have busy schedules, right?! And, respect for the knowledge, the process and for the trainer will contribute to your level of success as you make your way through the program.
